Another example of everyday Greek life imitating the colours of the Greek flag. The houses are painted white with blue doors and windows traditionally as a representation of those times in history when the Greek nation was suppressed or under foreign rule and therefore not recognised. Then the only way to show their nationalism was by imitating the colours of the Greek flag on their buildings and houses. White also keeps the buildings cooler in the long hot summer months. This particular house lay in the backstreets of the village of Akrotiri on Santorini, Greece.
