Thor, do the ponies serve any purpose on the farm? I'm curious to know if the farmers turn them out to graze or if they are wild ponies to begin with?

The ponies have been living wild on the moor for thousands of years Larry - most, but not all, are nominally owned by farmers round them up and sell the surplus once a year. The ponies do a great job at keeping the ground clear from invasive plants and trees.

There are similar herds of ponies on Exmoor and Dartmoor.
