Starlings, Shapwick Heath, Somerset.

An incredible sight (and hard to photograph!) as what is estimated to be between one and three million starlings fly in huge swirling patterns before settling in the reeds for the night. We walked past the reeds later - the sound was amazing!

Thor...and I thought Starlings were disappearing....we don't see many around here...just the odd few in the garden...great to see them all....

wow - speechless - this must have been an exhilarating experience

Near Austin Texas, there are about 15-20 million Mexican bats that spend the day in a nearby cave, they just as dusk begins, ALL of them fly out at once (we saw a Discovery Channel show on it too) never hitting another. They use their incredible sonar capabilities to achieve this. Many other links on a search for this - this is my fav

oh wow... amazing.. I can believe the sound as they settled... we have seen it and must have been a drop in the bucket compared to your experience, was going to upload mine but after this...................... !!! what can I say... !!

I love this phenomenon and well photographed! I have seen the near Gretna Green like this. The audio is awesome too!
