An incredible sight (and hard to photograph!) as what is estimated to be between one and three million starlings fly in huge swirling patterns before settling in the reeds for the night. We walked past the reeds later - the sound was amazing!

Near Austin Texas, there are about 15-20 million Mexican bats that spend the day in a nearby cave, they just as dusk begins, ALL of them fly out at once (we saw a Discovery Channel show on it too) never hitting another. They use their incredible sonar capabilities to achieve this. Many other links on a search for this - this is my fav
