The tail of a Northern Right Whale, off Tiverton, Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

The right whale was so-named as it was the 'right' whale to hunt as it is slow-moving and floats when killed - as a result it was almost hunted to extinction. Today there are only 350 - 400 left but they are protected now. We were incredibly lucky to see such a rare creature.

There was a wonderful programme on recently Thor called 'Ocean Giants' about different species of whales...this was one of them....if you didn't see it, it's worth seeing on IPlayer or equivalent:) great TV for once!

You must have felt very privileged to witness this.....

Yes, I have been watching Ocean Giants too - I would have been emotionally undone to see this with my own eyes. I think it should be on everyone's "bucket list!"
