This cross was put up in 1373 in the centre of Bristol to mark the site of the marketplace, it was taken down nearly 400 years later (1765) and moved to its current site in the grounds of Stourhead. The move saved probably the cross as many such monuments were simply demolished as towns and cities modernised from the 18th century onwards. | |
