Doug, Westward Ho! is my local beach on the North Devon coast. It faces westwards so its ideal for sunsets. The history of the name is curious - a local writer Charles Kingsley wrote a very successful book in 1855 about a young boy who sailed westwards with Drake and fought the spaniards - the book was so popular that a holiday resort was constructed bearing its name - hence "Westward Ho!".
Westward Ho! is the only place name in Britain to end with an exclamation mark.
Thanks for the explanation, Thor. I think it is unusual for a place anywhere to end in an exclamation! BTW, I read your short story about the hoopoe and relationships and enjoyed it very much! You are a very good writer as well as photographer!!
