An Avocet feeding on the mudflats of the River Exe, Tpsham, Devon this afternoon..
As you can see I couldn't get very close - nevertheless I'm pleased with this picture of this special bird. The Avocet is the symbol of the RSPB (The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) in Britain and this bird's gradual return to Britain since the 1940s is one of the great conservation success stories.

I'll look out for Cattle Egrets here Steve - I'd probably assume they were Little Egrets and not give them a second glance so your tip-off is useful!
