My entry for unusualfriday : Grafitti dating to around 1140 from St Nicholas's church, Compton, Surrey. The story is that a Norman knight engraved this shortly before he left on one of the crusades, when he returned he added the diagonal lines to the cross.
It is unusual to find grafitti that is so old and that is in a church!

lol I can remember when I used to 'graffiti' but no-one called it that then. It was just carving your initials into something!
