I used to watch them while they are hiding some goodies they have found. They are very busy then, make a hole in the ground or in the snow and put the food in there. After that they cover it carefully with snow or leaves! Smart birds but I dont know if they remember where they have left their food!
what a great shot of the magpie. Beautiful bird but I have to say this is one bird I am really scared of. They nest in our trees and will dive at you and at the animals and attack. A real pest that can be very dangerous especially for young children and young animals. Interesting to read the comments from others. Bet they have not had the experience of being chased.
On saying all this I knew a lady who had one as a pet and was a real character and hated my ex husband and used to attack him. Hmm maybe that should have been a clue.
I have never been attacked by them but they can be a big pest to other birds.
Magpies, jays & other corvids are notorious egg thieves my chickens included.
