'Waterloo': It's no coincidence that the driving coach of this electric multiple unit has been placed next to the fantastic canvas of Waterloo Station and its famous clock painted by Terrance Cuneo in 1967. The train, with its '8' headcode, travelled between Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour on the Southern Region.
These trains were nicknamed 'Nelson's' - one 'eye' (window) being covered up (like Admiral Lord Nelson) to display the destination board. They also journeyed to Portsmouth, one of the 'homes' of the British Navy . . . not that I'm an anorak you know . . !
