Downtown Mohall is undertaking a major renovation. The block that was "the giant hole" now has the framework of a three story hotel filling the area, and buildings across the "walking mall" (which was a street before the downtown area died) is presently being demolished. Not much to see right now, but I thought I would post a couple of photos for the records.

A close up of the facade' of one of the buildings being demolished- the metal is rusting and the concrete is chipping off of the front, so they are ready to go anyway. Thought they made an interesting study from this viewpoint...

I find it sad that these centers of human activity have become largely abandoned. It's the same in any city, no matter the size. Some have had moderate success in revitalizing downtowns; our town is having better than average results, but it would still be better if more people made it a choice for shopping and entertainment. I work downtown, and live just five miles from the city center, and yet I rarely go there. And, strangely, I'm not deciding to NOT go there ~ it simply doesn't occur to us, as the five-lane, ten-mile-long, mall and restaurant-lined super street is just a mile in the other direction from home. I need to be more aware of doing my part.
