This tall arborvitae was located at the front corner of our house 9up until yesterday afternoon, anyway). I was nearly knocked to the ground by our bad ice storm two winters ago, but using ropes I was able to slowly pull it back to an upright position.
Yesterday we went through some really bad weather, including 5+ inches of rain and wind gust that at times neared 80mph.
It was too much for this top heavy shrub. I came home to find it buckeled over with half of its roots broken off in the ground. There was no saving it this time. It is now cut up and waiting to be picked up by the garbage men today.
I went out and bought another version of this shrub. Had to- the main thing this one did was hide an ugly water meter in front of the house. Because the new one is small, it will be a couple of years before the front of the house looks balanced again.
It looks like a steady diet of liquid fertilizer begins today... | |
