The flowers opened around last Thursday, making a nice pot of flowers for Easter for Lease.
Wallyworld had pots with three bulbs each in them last week for $5. The 6 bulbs I potted up last fall probably set me back $2, soil included, and gave us more color and scent for the money.
About about the one flower stalk growing horizontally instead of vertically? I don't know why that happens, but forsythias have done that to me before, too. I just let them grow whatever why they want to- don't bother me at all.
If you look at the full sized view, you can see how far along my in-ground forsythias are right now (the two spiky-looking sets of leaves just above the forced pot). Probably shaved 3 weeks off by forcing them this year. It would have been more, but the pot (and several others) were still frozen solid in the ground up until a couple of weeks ago. Until the rains fell, I couldn't budge them out of the garden.... | |
