I didn't put much effort into growing them (nothing close to what I do for my peppers and tomatoes)- just stuck several packets of seeds into the ground, built a basic frame using 2" x 2" studs and rope, watered and fertilized them a few times, and left them to their own devices. Even the pumpkins in the photo are pretty easy to grow- the larger ones are Sugar Pie, the smaller are Baby Boo, Baby Orange, and Baby Bear The whitish ones in the foreground? They are volunteers from the one variety that grew last year out of my compost pile. This one is aggressive- the vines from the few that came up grew into two neighbor's back yards, along with mine. I am guessing there is at least another 50 of them laying on the ground that I didn't pick today but will gather to give away to whoever wants them after the rain stops... | |
