For all of you- the sunflowers are planted in a farmer's field across the road from my workplace. It covers about 120 acres, and is an unbelievable sight to see as I pull into the drudgery of my job every morning. The farmer also sells birdseed at his mill, and has grown these black oil-type seeds 2 of the last 3 years in this field.
All the blooms face the east, making the photo above possible. I shot it from the back of one of our 6-ton trucks as it was heading out onto the road (it was break time, so no taxpayers dollars were spent on this effort ;)
The only changes I made to the photo was to crop out what little sky was showing at the top, and I used the "unsharp mask" filter to bring up the details in the far away blooms.
Oh yesh- 100 speed film setting, f28 (yes, 28), 1/50th of a second at 18mm wide angle.That added to the deept of field in the final shot.
