plaster of paris???

After you have finished your sculpture you should put it in the oven.
i did not, I just let it dry....then painted it with acrylic paint. When the paint was dry I sprayed with varnish for acrylic paint.
This was more or less a 'relief'. If you make a sculpture with more volume I certainly would put it in the oven.

omg we used to do this when we were kids and my kids did the same then painted them :)

I suppose in my old body still lives a kid :)
