The peeping tom (AKA- Lonely no more)

I dont know what these bugs are called but they are covering the bush in my front yard. My interest in them has risen over the past few days along with their numbers. they came out of no where and now there are hundreds. Ive never seen then before now but they act a little like june bugs in that they dont really chase you but seem to wander aimlessly in flight and bump into random things (usualy people) they also posture them selves on the tips of leaves in plain sight and stick out there second set of legs (it reminds me of a child pretending to fly). in flight they are slow and bummbaly (if that is a word :) ) what cought my eye to start with (other than their fantastic colors) was their antenas they stem from the head in a single stalk like most antenas but at the end they split into three separate "fingers" for lack of a better word. Knowing nothing about them other than what I have whitnessed, my theory is that they most likely see in heat patterns like a snake rather than in color and this is why they seem to be drawn to people even in the day time because we emit large amounts of heat from our bodies. and as half of the bugs on the bush are "mid coatis" and the other half seem to be searching for the best possible position to posture them selves in it is my opinion that their "flying arm stance" is something of a advertising posture for attracting a mate.

I dont know any of this to be certain it is just the theory I have formed after watching these mystery bugs over the past few days. if you know what they are please fill me in :) thanx

they're Japanese Beetles. that's what i've always heard them referred to.

hmm....and after searching wikipedia for "Japanese Beetle" it turns out that is what they're called, but they're also sometimes referred to as the jitterbug. you learn something new every day.
