The breed has been around for at least 25 years (we had one back then) but they aren't a "recognized" breed with the Canadian Kennel Club. I think it's because so many different breeds now are crossed with Poodles, that it's difficult to be consistent and develop any standards for them..

Here in Canada they have crossed poodles with all kinds of breeds as well. The Cockapoo though seems to have lasted the longest. I think the poodle is popular as a cross since they don't shed their fur, and come in 3 sizes and can be crossed to almost any other breed.

yes - I've just found that one owned by friends of ours is a labradoodle - he's a real character :))

There are Goldendoodles as well - Golden Retriever/Standard Poodle - they would be similar to the Labradoodle, but longer fur.
