The Lions each have a unique character to them. I'm not sure what the significance of the beard is or if they all have one. The long fringes and beard does help to accentuate their movements when they dance though (like the beard on this lion http://www.fotothing.com/Pueo/photo/1f3149d732877d0a555f637072c2f432/ )
