Gau (Chinese New Year Series 5/11)

No Chinese New Year celebration is complete without Gau. A sticky caramel colored glutinous rice cake desert wrapped in ti leaves and topped with sesame seeds and a red date. I could go on but you can find out more here:

**edit** Interestingly, these gau appear to be missing the red dates that are supposed to be on top in the center. Which is somewhat ironic since the date is symbolic of "good luck" and although the sign says "Good Luck Gau" it is missing the critical attribute that would make it "good luck". Oh well.
