"What if one of them seems odd" .. Yup, that'll be the chap with a tripod working on his art project, the terrorist will be looking completely normal.

We are even dumber than I think we are.

Britain 2009.

We've actually had someone here arrested for taking pictures of a bridge, and another of a reservoir. Of course charges were dropped, but still...

Meg I hope with the rise of ETA terrorism that Spain doesn't go the same way.

If its any consolation I think this is a city-centric (or London centric?) phenomenon - nobody bothers with any of this stuff in the provinces (such as here in Devon).

I have been told several times that I am not allowed to take pictures of Federal Buildings. I certainly wouldn't be taking them just because of the interesting architecture. Must be some more sinister motive.

To you Thor it may seem like ETA is on the rise, the fact is that they are not as active now as in past years, it's a threat that we all live with but don't make a big deal of!

After the bomb blast in Madrid there are airport style checks here now on the main railway stations, but even there we are allowed to take photos of the trains.
There just isn't the same knee-jerk reaction to such things here like there is in the UK.

Don't come to australia, similar signs on everything forbidding photography "for security". It seems that if you take photos of buildings you're a terrorist, take photos of people and you're a pervert.

Couldn't agree more.
Especially when anti terrorist laws are being abused by the authorities to persecute others who have no terrorist intent.
