more and more balloons going up.......

The 37th annual Great Balloon Race (http://www.greatforestparkballoonrace.com ) is was held on Sat September 15, 2007. The balloons are all setup close together in a large field and then they started inflating slowly. The race is called a "tortoise and hare" race because a lead balloon takes off and lands at a distant area - the "tortoise". The other balloons take off one by one(the "hares") and find the lead balloon. Once they find the lead balloon they drop a sack of birdseed as close as possible to that balloon. The balloon that drops their sack of birdseed closest to the "tortoise" wins the race.

We started out with the photographers being allowed on the launching field as the pilot and crew prepared the balloons for flight. It was great fun!!

This event took place in Forest Park (http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/parks/forestpark ) which is in the center of St Louis and is 40% bigger than Central Park in New York City.

Have a great weekend!!!!

I was going to ask if there was a box of popcorn in the middle, but I think wifey answered that one for me.

thank you Roger!!

it's becoming easier to apply some of the basic "rules" of photography - but it becomes really hard when you are shooting almost constantly!!

my basic theory is shoot as many photos as I have mem cards to hold - and delete the bad (only problem with system is I'm a pack-rat, so dumping almost any is somewhat difficult!!...:-)))

My card takes 541 at full size ... so I haven't gone close to using the full card before a download ... and yes i do shoot indiscrimantly and duplicated shots ...

oh that would be nice... I have 2 - 2gb, 2- 1gb and 1 - 512mb
on the 2GB's I can get about 350 6MP shots in raw
I have been waiting for the price on the 4GB's to come down - would love an 8 - but that's just dreaming

Friday I filled both 2GB cards and 1 1GB card driving along the Mississippi River north of St Louis on the Illinois side, they have a 100 scenic hwy that has 1-200 foot limestone bluffs covered with fall colors - it was awesome!!

Looking forward to them ... I'm taking my laptop with me next year .. so a fair bit of downloading and burning disks and maybe storing somewhere - also might have to find an online storage place (other than here) ... any ideas ? ..

But I will have to be a lot more selective in photography. That will give more time for other activities :-))

Roger - I'm using what I consider a really good online service - i-drive:
https://www.idrive.com/index.html
it allows me to backup revisions of a file, will backup from attached external drives, and is only $50 US a year for 150GB. Once I do the settings, it backs up automatically for me.
the biggest competitor is Mozy, same price - but it will overwrite files, doesn't support revisions (a couple of other things were marked as cons on a review I read). this was going to be my first choice - until I discovered i-drive and read about the cons on Mozy

Beautiful sky! Lovely and colorful balloons! I saw some hot air balloons in Egypt and they certainly reminded me of you. :)
