I don't know who to give credit to, but this was one of the most creative things I've seen in years - as far as dealing with ice and snow impacting an auto.
By leaving the wipers up, they don't freeze to the windsheild becoming completely worthless. I was able to brush the car off with my snow brush - then wipe the windshield when I got wet junk thrown on my windshield from the cars driving in front of me!!
