This is my Grandma Gladys on her wedding day in 1926 to Edgar Slater.
A lovely photo but can I draw your attention to the handsome chap in the background. He was Len Slater, in the 1920's/30's he was a great football player, he played for Birmingham City and then for an Irish Football Club. Whilst in Ireland he was kicked in the kidneys by accident during a game and sadly he died (There where no transplants in those days) Len was buried in a Smethwick cemetry, a stone football erected on his grave.
Such a shame, he was only in his twenties.
This happened a few months after this photo was taken.

I know this was in the distant past, but when my Dad told me the story of his uncle Len, it really upset me.
