June 21st is a very special day for me, it is my late mom's birthday. She left us in the year 2000, and not a day has gone by since, but she is in my thoughts, and she alway's will be. I miss her so very much, and as my life enters a new and exciting time, with a new wife and so much to look forward to, I so wish she was here to share it with me, but I am sure she is looking down on us with pride.
She was a very special lady who gave me and my
brother and sister's a wonderful life, wonderful years growing up, she gave us a foundation to live our lives in a meaningfull way and really made me and my siblings the people we are today. Most important of all, she taught me to LOOK, to SEE, and today, and for many years past, what she gave me has made me the photographer I am today.
This picture was taken at Pemount Hospital in Ireland back in 1949, by my father, who was serving in the Irish Air Corp and had just met my mother when she was a young woman about to be discharged home, after spending 4 years in the hospital recovering fron TB, at a time when over 80% of young people in Ireland with TB died. She was so fortunate, and I am of course, so grateful that she went on to give this world a wonderful family, who all share the values she gave to us.
