Bea, you are right, herbs are fixed on eggs which are then cooked in water with onion peelings !! Nice to hear that this is also a custom in your country !! ;+))

so nice to see different traditions, in my country we scratch the pattern after colouring or paint with beeswax and then dye (batik technique)

I like your beetroot idea. I know that you can use the tree bark of many trees to dye natural wool fabric, but I don't know if its safe for eggs if you want to eat them afterwards.
I will have to try the "fixing herbs" technique next year. I like the result very much.

It also works to put a small red beet and a little vinegar in the water. The eggs will come out a beautiful dark purple color!

Ruth, your eggs are beautiful! They appear at first to be made of wood, but tast better this way, I think!
