Round the world part 15: South Island New Zealand February 2006

The Kingston Flyer; a lovely old steam train.

On the spur of the moment, having seen this mentioned on our map, we took a slight detour to find this. When we got there, we said to the lady in the ticket office: "Three questions: 1. Where does the train go to? 2. How much does it cost? and 3. How often does it run?"

Her answers were: "1. it goes to Fairleigh, about 14km away, and it takes half an hour; 2. it costs (but I can't remember that bit) and 3. the last train of the day goes in ............" (looking at her watch) ".....one minute."

So we bought our tickets and went!
