I have never seen sand carving before - fascinating! Is this a big thing in Finland?

No, not really. At least I didn't think it was. I did a little googling and found this: http://www.frostiart.com/. So it seems that there are some sculptors in Finland who are really into this sand (and ice) carving thing. The city of Lappeenranta has even had a sand park for the past three years. I never knew that before your question made me look into this thing! :)

But whether it's a big thing or not, one thing is for sure...these people are really talented! I wish I could have seen the whole carving process from the beginning...

Yes Taxonomist...we are all bald here in Finland. lol Just kidding! We might honestly be strange, though... :)

there's a sand carving competition here in one of our beaches ... though i yet have to see one in action!
