I know it's an old custom to do so, dear Minz. But bread isn't adapted to their organisme and therefore harmful. Ornithologists say bread being wet blows up in the stomac, and furthermore, there is salt and gluten in it. Each year they find swans and ducks falled ill after having eaten bread. In any case they find enough food in the nature, as seaweed, grass, plant herbaceous, etc, even in winter.
Hi Papagena - many thanks for the info on bread. Wont do that again !
I take it that this applies to garden birds as well. I usually put out brown seeded bread and put cooking oil on it and the birds seem to love it. Would this be wrong as well?
