Ngarua Cave - Nelson

A limestone cave under the marble mountain known as Takaka Hill.

Private land which the owner gives tours through, he has found preserved skeletons of the moa who fell though holes and shafts and whose remains have been relatively untouched. You can see the full remains of the Little Bush Moa which generally grew to as high as 1.3 metre in height - beside it you can see leg bones of a larger Moa still, and to cap that a photo of the Giant Moa at Auckland Museum that stood well over 3 metres tall
