I'll finish with trees and a funny.
Greytown loves their trees, they were the first place in New Zealand to celebrate Arbor Day in 1890.
The most famous is a massive gum tree 40 metres high and 30 wide. Understood to be the largest gum tree in NZ.
I couldn't get it all in frame so you get it in bits
Apparently brought over the Rimutuka's from Wellington in a wheelbarrow as a seedling in (I'm guessing) 1860's. Interesting journey now with sealed roads ..can't imagine it then | |
