Bay of Islands - Cruise

Maori occupied the Bay of Islands from as early as the 10th century, but more regularly from the 15th century, largely unchanged in customs until Captain Cook and Europeans arrived in the late 1700's. Whaling was popular around the area from the early 1800's and apart from the main town at the time Russell (Kororareka) many of the islands supported mining and farming.
Now the main industry is Tourism and American writer Zane Grey immortalised the area as a big game fishing destination in his books from the 1920's onwards.

Some inlets and bays on various islands we passed.
