Omana Regional Park

This home for these goats may not seem much but the ditch they are in form part of the defences of a Pa (maori fort). A ring ditch pa it was also "hanging pa" literally hanging on to a cliff to prevent attack from that direction. In it's prime the internal bank would wave been built up and protected by pallisades

hehehehehe ... you chose an appropriate place to say it well done ...as I said in the caption it was the site of a maori settlement before Europeans arrived so Kia ora will have been very common here :-))

I'm also kicking myself that I can't remember the goat's name painted on the other side of the shelter ... I remember it made me laugh at the time
