Not as lucky this trip ... mainly cloud on the way up Charlotte .... warming up over there ?? I'm still three months away so you have plenty of time to get the weather organised :-))

At first this looks like a pretty normal train picture, -but then one notices how steep it is! Very cool :-D! I´ve never even seen one of these vehicles, much less been on one.
I actually just saw a program on Discovery channel about the very first funiculars - in Switzerland. At first they tried to use steam power, but that is problematic, because the power of a boiler diminishes drastically if it is not kept level. So they soon came up with building a dam and using the electricity they got from that (a generator, obviously) -to power the funicular. That proved to be a hit and soon funiculars were being built all over :-D

Cheers Karl for the info .. had a few funiculars in South America ... even passed on one this very day in Taxco ... walked instead
