A woman that was a real good friend of Gail's mom had tea with Hitler in about 1931 - he apparently was very cordial and polite. He held some minor position and they simply walked up to the front door, introduced themselves and were invited in.

Roger - I just fact checked with Gail and the year is wrong - it was 1939 - just weeks before the invasion of Poland. It was a group of college students bike riding (backpacking) around Europe and introduced themselves as such - also he was already Fuhrer - and yet they had this incredible easy access. Additionally (Gail was a Geographer by trade but also taught a lot of History) Germany had already taken over parts Czechoslovakia!!
