Bay of Islands - Waitangi Treaty Grounds

The Waitangi Treaty Grounds, overlooking the Bay of Islands, is New Zealand's pre-eminent historic site.

It was here on February 6th, 1840, that the Treaty of Waitangi was first signed between Maori and the British Crown.

The Maori Meetinghouse (Te Whare Runanga ) on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is intricately carved, I could only get a view from the outside as there were about three tour groups queued to go though , but please have a look at the link

For a stunning inside view.

And Pam was patient enough to get inside on her visit here .. have a look at her excellent photos

MW, we were lucky enough to go inside and saw a dramatic performance depicting NZ history; lots of Maori singing, it was a truly wonderful experience........ thanks for the memory!
