Fingal County Council pilot a new ‘Growing Places’ policy under which a large number of open spaces and green areas are being allowed to grow wild. It is supposed to encourage greater biodiversity by allowing weed and wild flower to grow which in turn attract birds and insects like butterflies and ladybirds.
Many residents are opposed to the new initiative which sees many recreational green spaces left to become overgrown meadows. But I quite like it. I’ve always loved wading through long grass, and it brings childhood memories flooding back.
