It’s hardly the mecca of modern art, but it does add a little colour to an otherwise dull skateboarding park. We could call it the defacement of public property, or the people who scrawl their shapes and text irresponsible and childish. Maybe the sweeping generalisation that all graffiti is vandalism and therefore should be removed, prevents the recognition of the largely misunderstood art form.
The man to credit for bringing street art into established gallery spaces is Banksy. He rocks. A few years ago he was sneaking his work into galleries such as the Louvre and Tate Britain. Now Tate Modern is selling his book in its gift shop!
