Kish Island, Persian Gulf. Iran.
This is the entrance of the old Qanat of the Kish Island. A Qanat is an underground irrigation system. It is constructed by tunneling into a cliff, scarp or base of a mountainous area, following a water-bearing formation. It brings water to the surface where it can be utilized in irrigation of agricultural areas.
Its really interesting to go through the empty tunnel. | |
