Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae

New Zealand's native Tui .
It is almost black with an iridescent sheen and and has the most beautiful and distinguised birdsong of all our native birds.
In our colonial past it was referred to as the Parson bird because of the white tuft of feathers on the neck of the adult birds.

This is a beautiful photo. Grandma quite often feeds them outside her kitchen window, the most she has had at one time was four. I love the colour of them.

What a great capture Margaret. I have only ever seen one of these at my place and it was being chased by the residents blackbirds dam it all. My brother in law feeds them at his place and regulaly has about 10 outside there dining room. beautiful to see and hear.
