38 views Photo Uploaded: Aug 28 2008 09:55:51 GMT Taken: 2008:08:26 12:37:34 Manufacturer: SONY Camera: DSC-H5Aperture: F5.6 Shutter: 10/2000 sec ISO: 125 Flash: No (Turned off) This is not the best time of the year to be a sheep, (if there is such a thing); this ewe is not dead, it is ‘cast’, which means, because it is pregnant, it sometimes is unable to right itself after sitting down and ends up on it’s back with it’s legs in the air; which can be fatal for the sheep and for the lamb(s) it is carrying; it then needs to be helped back onto it’s feet; they usually run off immediately and then look ‘sheepishly’ at you from a safe distance.
On this day I stopped to help three sheep in this paddock back onto their feet; two ran away, but one was very weak and remained sitting; I saw today that she had moved on, so must have recover; I hope.
