The monastery in Ter Apel, in the province of Groningen, dates back to 1465. The monastery is one of the few buildings in the region that survived the Reformation relatively intact. The building was restored in 1933, and now serves as a museum devoted to ecclesiastic art and religious history. There is a herb garden in the cloisters which contains a varied collection of nutrient-rich herbs. The museum occasionally holds special reconstruction events with period themes and dress.
