Is this algae a natural occurence or some form of pollution? Too many nutrients in the water?

doramandragora, this is a weed that covers the pond. It look svery unsafe as children could walk on it and think it was grass.

Thanks, Joe. I actually remember now seeing something similar in an ancient vulcano crater in northern Australia.
