A few miles beyond Clifden lies Omey Island, which is joined to the main land at low tide. the island is sizeable, about a mile wide by a mile long, wth a number of farms and houses still inhabited. The only way to the island is over a beach.
The tide comes in as fast as a stream and often mororists are stranded on the Island until the tide goes out again.
A row of signs have been erected along the beach marking the route for the motorists to follow. | |
