(Photograph loaded for Larrybenedict) During the American Civil War a major battle was fought near the small town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. On September 17, 1862, General Burnside and 12,000 Union soldiers tried to cross this bridge over Antietam Creek and were fought off by Confederate sharpshooters for over three hours. Many soldiers were killed and today this bridge is referred to as "Burnside Bridge" and many people believe that this site is haunted.

Roger...thank you so very much....it's one of the most historic locations in America....it's also the site of the single biggest loss of American lives during in American history.....over 23.000 men were lost on a single day...ironically, at the end of the day, neither side had an advantage....

Thanks for loading this one for me Jake. Wish we had more old bridges like this scatted around our country. This website has been unavailable to me for two or three days (don't know why), so I am, just this morning getting access again.
