The views over Los Angeles are amazing, and since it had rained the night before, last night's air was clear and crispy.
The park and observatory are jewels, a gift to the city intended to be free to the public forever. The history of the place tells of when the city of LA almost did not accept this 3,000+ acre park, as it was about a mile from the existing city lines back then, and with poor roads leading to it, the thought was that nobody would visit the place.
Luckily, the gift was accepted and now the park sits basically in the center of the now-huge metro area. I got to look through the telescope at Mars last night.
Very cool! | |
