I took my Mercury in Thursday morning for a little work. The 40-year-old transmission was barely transmitting any power from the engine to the ground. So a complete overhaul was in order: pull the trans, clean it, replace the guts.... It was pretty bad. They're even replacing the valve body. But in went a new 1,800 stall converter, new Kevlar bands, new clutches, a shift kit. Should be pulling mild burnouts again soon!

She's still bogged down by an old Holley Economizer 2-barrel 350 CFM carb. One of these days there will be a 600 CFM 4-barrel and, if I can swing it, a vintage Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold. THEN maybe it'll smoke the block. =)
