Boating with friends yesterday, the weather went from this to stormy, cutting out time on the water a little short. I went out once more with three kids, and Sarah wanted to take the helm. This was on the river, and she already has very little driving experience. I was busy telling her things without sounding like a control freak when she suddenly ran the boat up on a sandbar or a muck pile. I quick grabbed the wheel, ran the tilt up on the engine, and we powered out of it. A bit farther ahead, I put the engine tilt back down and then we took off again. And then I hit a submerged log with the outdrive or propeller. ~BAM!~ I decided that was enough for the night and we pulled the boat out of the water. I'm gonna take the prop in for a rebuild this week.... =(

No, it's not good. But the prop was beat up when I got it ~ it's simply worse now. A rebuild costs about $45 if I remember the last time I had it done. Way cheaper than a new one!

There are few more sickening sounds in the world than the "ka-dunk" of a prop hitting...whatever. Logs suck, but it coulda been worse: shoals really clunk when you hit them ;-7. How's that for glass half full? ;-)

......see, it's always as soon as the women get involved that the mechanic starts earning!

Haha! I imagine that in a kid's mind, as long as there is water, that is where the boat can go, sort of like the road. Without thinking about depth and obstacles, it's a rational thought. I need to work on my driver's training methods; really, it's my own fault.
