My dad says the annual lease on the cabin ~ they own the structure but lease the lot from the US Forest Service ~ has been more than doubled to almost $1k per year. I wonder what has changed, or what we can expect from our friends in government, to justify the steep increase.
I think my dad wants to transfer ownership to my sister and me, and while I would like the place to stay in the family, we only manage to go there once or twice a year. It's not that we don't want to go; there are so many things to do already.
Dad didn't buy the place till 2/3 of his kids had grown and moved out, and I can see why. It's pretty likely that he'd continue to help maintain the family cabin. They moved from here to near there a couple years ago since they like the area so much.

Hey! Why am I telling you all this stuff? =)

Listen to this, it's the cabin at night:

You aren't thinking of parting with it? It is so beautiful!

Not really. I'm just not so sure I want it yet. To rephrase that: I'm sure I want it, but just not this year or next.... It is beautiful. We are lucky.

Over here, you would pay more than double that to rent a place 1/2 as good for a long weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah. It's good of you to put it into perspective for me, Doods. I don't know exactly what the place is worth; it's a mouse-smelling cabin more than a cottage. But you're right. Thanks!

fabreeze! it works wonders!!

it's not the inside that matters--it's the OUTSIDE---look--you're look right across and NO people and NO houses (at least right there!)

it's sooo beautiful--how much is the lease per month?? can you go there in winter??

You can if you have knobbies and 4WD or if you want to ski in and carry all your provisions. There's no maintenance on the two-tracks and trails that lead to this place. But we have been there at all times of the year. It takes a long time for the woodstove to heat up the place in January! And you'd better get up every three hours to stoke the fire.
