I remember only the sandy, hot stretches outside of the city without
such wonderful monuments. It's been a while since I was there.
I think only a few hotels were present then.

Bahrain is now full of hotels etc. If you visit now, you will find it different especially in April (Formula One takes place in Bahrain in April, every year).
